The idea of special places where the world of humans and the world of elves and fairies intersect is nothing new in fantasy literature. But the idea of a preserve with caretakers to protect such places presents some novel opportunities. E.B. Stevens provides an earnest and engaged narration in the first nook of this new series. His narrative style is geared a bit for younger readers in its somewhat exaggerated air of drama in portions of the book that are not particularly dramatic. Nonetheless, Stevens keeps the story moving and captures the emotions of his youngest characters. His delivery is rich and varied, and helps the characters come alive. J.E.M.
