Reviews for Recipe and Craft Guide to India

Booklist Reviews 2011 January #1
In the World Crafts and Recipes series, recipes and art projects introduce readers to a variety of countries' rich cultures. Colorful photos show both the original inspirations for the activities as well as examples of children's projects and culinary creations. An introductory section outlines the country's history, and sections of text throughout the books provide additional context. In Recipe and Craft Guide to India, the inspiration for many of the recipes and crafts come from the country's diverse cultural traditions. The back matter includes a number of further reading suggestions, a glossary featuring both culturally specific and general vocabulary words (although these words are not specially marked in the text itself), and an index. The "About the Author" page is notable as it highlights each writer's personal connection to the country. Copyright 2011 Booklist Reviews.

Library Media Connection Reviews 2011 January/February
These books include social, cultural, and historical information in addition to various recipes and craft projects that originate in the specified country. Each recipe includes information about what the food is and its history. The recipes are complete with necessary ingredients and explicit instructions for preparation. Colorful pictures of the finished product are included. Recipes range from everyday items to foods associated with particular holidays. Each craft includes materials needed and step-by-step instructions for completing the project. Color photographs also accompany each craft. This is the best series I have seen because it combines culture and history with crafts and food; it's the perfect combination for teachers and students. This user-friendly series will be an extremely valuable addition to elementary and middle school libraries. Bibliography. Glossary. Websites. Table of Contents. Index. Highly Recommended.
