Reviews for Essential King James Bible : Complete Stories from the Old and New Testaments

AudioFile Reviews 2002 April/May
Top marks for this beautiful set of readings from the Old and New Testaments. Rather than giving us an unabridged Bible or selections from books in their canonical order, the editors of this new 6-hour collection provide story selections, presented in a roughly historical sequence, from Creation to Revelation, with three discs (or cassettes) devoted to the Old Testament and three for the New Testament. While this structure, leaping back and forth between biblical books as it does, can be disorienting to the student of the Bible, it's a very effective way of presenting the Gospels as a single unified story of Jesus, rather than as four separate and redundant accounts. This audio Bible receives highest praise for the beautiful performances of Rosalind Ayres and Martin Jarvis, who read alternating sections with meaning, beauty, and class, surpassing all others.
