Miles Vorkosigan has found great success in working outside the direct command of his boss, Illyan Simon, the chief of Barrayaran security. But when he goes too far and brings his military career to an abrupt end, circumstances thrust him into a new situation--one for which he is uniquely suited. As he investigates what he believes to be an act of sabotage, Miles discovers an affinity for authority in himself, as well as a streak of creativity. Grover Gardner's understated, wry performance captures the essence of this multifaceted character. Gardner sets a fast pace with plenty of suspense and an undercurrent of humor as Miles navigates a political landscape in which his family and friends play major roles. J.E.M.
