AudioFile Reviews 2013 March
Lorelei King brings everyone's favorite Grim Reaper back to snarky life in this fourth addition to Darynda Jones's engrossing series. Two months after the attack that nearly killed her, Charley is dragged back into business when a woman arrives on her doorstep begging for help that only Charley can provide. Her investigation will bring her back into the world of spirits and demons--and face-to-face with the enigmatic Reyes Farrow. King is in her element voicing Charley and manages to make her every pun and sarcastic retort crackle with life while exploring the emotional nuances of her troubled relationships and romances. Though some of King's secondary characters aren't quite as strong, series regulars are instantly recognizable and delightfully vibrant. B.E.K. (c) AudioFile 2013, Portland, Maine

This well-done audiobook is the fourth entry in Jones's paranormal romance series featuring Albuquerque, NM, private detective Charlotte "Charley" Davidson. Secretly the grim reaper, Davidson employs her ability to see dead people to her professional advantage. While pursuing her career and navigating her unusual relationships, she aids a woman whose life is in imminent danger. All characters, paranormal and otherwise, are well drawn, and the witty narrative deftly employs sarcasm, implication, and understatement. Narrator Lorelei King is excellent as the voice of Charley and equally adept at portraying all the characters. VERDICT Recommended for those who have enjoyed the previous series entries and those looking for other series à la "Sookie Stackhouse" or "Stephanie Plum."--Sandra C.
