Reviews for Costume Around the World Germany

Library Media Connection Reviews 2008 November/December
From the saffron robes of Buddhist monks in India to the embroidered silk robes of the Chinese, the special costumes of the 10 nations in this series are shown in detail. The costumes are brought to the young reader with photos and explanations of their origin. Each volume not only explains the clothing of the country, but also the influence of geography and climate, religion and culture, gender, international fashion, and local careers. Each chapter includes pictures and sidebars. Some of the countries do mention undergarments, but use the proper names for them. Library filters may block some of the mentioned Web sites. Overall, the set is a good, simple introduction to the costumes of the world for elementary reports. Bibliography. Glossary. Web sites. Index. Recommended. Sandi Jordet, District Library Media Coordinator, Brush (Colorado) Public Schools ¬ 2008 Linworth Publishing, Inc.
