VOYA Reviews 2007 December
Olivia, Veronika, and Sydney each have been named finalists in a contest that gives them a shot as a model with Vamp Modeling Agency and the opportunity to spend the summer in New York living the glamorous life. Olivia is a beautiful bookworm, with dreams of following in her parents' scientist footsteps. Veronika is a plus-sized knock-out from a small Ohio town. Sydney looks like a crazy rocker-chick but is not exactly comfortable with her bad-girl persona unless it upsets her father and his very young (and pregnant) new wife. Each girl, despite their differing backgrounds, ends up meeting the same fate in the Big Apple. They find out rather quickly that Vamp Models are just that-vampires-and all three girls become blood-suckers before they know it. Kenner, Johanna Edwards, and Serena Robar tell the stories of Olivia, Veronika, and Sydney respectively, but the three threads are very similar: Innocent girl comes to New York with stars in her eyes, girl meets boy, girl gets turned into a vampire, and by the end of her story, the girl and boy are together, but many questions are left unanswered. There is no doubt that this book will initially appeal to teenage girls with an interest in vampire lore, but many will be left wanting at the end. The novel is empty of calories and unfortunate lessons (the plus size girl has to go on a diet of "low-cal blood," and the smart girl gives up her former dreams without a thought).-Kimberly Paone 2Q 3P J S Copyright 2007 Voya Reviews.
