Reviews for Magical Worlds of Harry Potter : A Treasury of Myths, Legends, and Fascinating Facts

VOYA Reviews 2002 December
Using a question-and-answer format, Colbert sets out to reveal some of the magic behind the allusions and references liberally sprinkled throughout J. K. Rowling's popular series. Readers will marvel at her based-in-fact creativity, use of Latin and Greek words, and grasp of a multitude of literary allusions. This book is arranged alphabetically with entries that will provide interesting reading as well as important reference material for librarians and the Harry Potter reading and viewing masses. Sidebars and line drawings in purple help further illustrate such HP details as what a griffin looks like or the Indian word that spawned Voldemort's cohort, Nagini. Readers will be encouraged to investigate further by reading many of the references that discuss Egyptian mythology or Goethe's Faust. Librarians and trivia buffs alike will appreciate Colbert's careful index, and those searching for even further reading will find many suggestions in the bibliography and notes section. This selection is a quality purchase for anyone interested in Harry.-Lynn Evarts. Index. Illus. Biblio. Source Notes. 4Q 5P M J S Copyright 2002 Voya Reviews
